I had my techno smartie help me, however. Or, should I more correctly state, he took over the hooking-up and whatevers, which needed to be done. Downloaded the speed testing ability from Telstra and I know have a number I can put to the very good speed I am able to achieve with TPG.
My landline phone was moved to a different location within the same area and equally satisfactory, perhaps even more so really.
NBN originally made an error and hung their cable from the street's power pole instead of it going underground. This is an underground area and NBN told me afterwards, it was installed incorrectly. Thus, it was thought the inability to connect was due to that. But no, it was the faulty modem which took two years to identify.
