Particularly in local elections, I reckon it is too late to start campaigning when nominations are called, which is what many of our local opposition party do. And they are a permanent op.
The candidate should already be known via letters to ED [yes I read the letters and would know if a contributor stood] and community involvement.
I have respect for people who show genuine interest by standing again after a beating and for those who persevere when elected as part of a totally outgunned opposition. Our long term Mayor spent years as the lone voice in opposition. I may not like him but I respect him.
