I dont think its really fair to say that haematite is necessarily "better than" magnetite; they are different kettles of fish...

My understanding is fairly limited, but I will put down my thoughts and welcome any corrections!!

haematite is Fe2O3 whereas as magnetite is Fe3O4; what this difference boils down to is a requirement for different processing pathways where hematite is simpler and cheaper to use. This is probably why it was described as "better" than magnetite - as its true for steel makers etc.

For miners however, it is worth noting that the grade of magnetite 'ore' for export can be upgraded quite significantly by crushing and sorting through gravity separation which is relatively simple - and the high grade concentrate can fetch better prices than ROM hematite.

If TFE's case, its not a bad thing that they have hematite as the ability to essentially direct shoip will lower their startup costs and reduce the time to first production.
