Minemakers is setting up a phosphate mine in the Northern Territory
CEO Andrew Drummond says if phosphate is taxed it will put an end to company plans to build a fertiliser plant in Darwin
"The cash flow that we were aiming to use to grow the mine, to grow the business, to get into downstream processing to make fertiliser, basically Canberra is going to grab it first," he says.
"We can run (the Wonarah phosphate mine) as a long-term quarry, but it's going to make it much more difficult to get into value-add, which is so elusive in Australia anyway for the mining industry."
