WorkSafe Tasmania confirmed it had been notified of the incident at the Queenstown mine on Sunday and inspectors were at the site the next day.

Australian Workers Union's Robert Flanagan said everybody was waiting on the results of the WorkSafe investigation to work out how things had gone so wrong."This is a very concerning incident and we need to know what happened," Mr Flanagan said.

"I have been told there is a prohibition on firing at the mine until that investigation ascertains what occurred. "Fortunately there were no serious injuries from this uncontrolled firing. "One miner, who was about six metres away when the blast went off got bruises a nd lacerations. He was taken to hospital but later released.

"Our officials are also down on site talking to the crew."
