When the Rouses bought Henty ( Unity, publicly listed co. ), they paid cash to take it private. Then they decided, after the accidental death, and knowing more about Henty, they seriously wanted out.....obviously they wanted ( had to have/overextended ??) cash.
CYL, super anxious to become a 'real producer', bellied up to the bar, and paid, largely, cash.
Optimism over experience propelled by the hunger to become a 'real producer'.
Nothing more sinister, and I apologize for even hinting anything else....mea culpa.
Fortunately, the next two deals, securing Plutonic/Marymia for CYL, were outstanding,
most holders still don't appreciate the magnitude of the win......
when you finally get a real winner, all past mistakes are forgiven,
and the momentum of a real winner leads to other winning opportunities
