Please feel free to comment on these as im sure they will be discussed over the weekend. Also I can't vouch for the validity, age or colour coding of the maps - ie they kinda resemble parts of the side brickwall (colours and all).

Also posted is the accompanying comments (not mine).

My geology background doesn't go much further than filling in yard holes that the dog digs, hence i won't express my personal opinion here - but please be sure to do your own research.

    Cheers,
    The Sparkler

Comments on RTL coal option in Tete Province, Mozambique

    Introduction
Before I start I should let you know I am a geologist with 15 year experience, about 4 of those in southern Africa and quite a bit of that in Mozambique.
RTL have an option to buy a company (Dugal) that apparently holds these 3 exploration licences.

    Maps
3 licences this is a map of the 3 licences in green plotted over the geology. Riversdales Benga and Vales Moatize licences are highlighted in dark red/brown. Disregard the other coloured licences (other stuff I was working on a couple of years ago). Broadly, on this map, it is the mid green lower Karoo sedimentary rocks that host all of the coal in this area. You can see the red/brown licences of Vale and Riversdale cover predominantly this type of rock. You can also see that the 3 licences in question DO NOT cover much of the mid green (lower Karoo).
1433L ALL of this licence is granite (unit P2SD) and others. There is none of the coal bearing unit (PeT) on this licence. A small inlier of coal bearing Pet unit occurs south of the SE corner of the licence.
3245L Licence covers mainly granite units (P2CGr and P3CV). THERE IS A SMALL sliver of potential coal bearing unit (PeT) in the northern part of the licence. This sliver measures 7km by 0.8km. It may or may not contain coal.
3246 Covers mostly younger sedimentary rocks than the coal bearing sequence (CrLM and JrLp and CrLMS). Contains some arkose etc (PeC) of the upper Karoo, but this is much too high in the sequence and if coal were present here, it would be many kilometres deep. It does not contain any outcropping coal bearing unit (PeT).
Lower Karoo Legend is just part of the legend on the map showing the coal bearing units. PeT is the major coal bearing unit

    Conclusion
Virtually zero chance of finding moderate to large coal deposits in these licences
