hey kurrajong... this is the system started (legislated) by Abbott. it already had the mechanism in the bill thanks to amendments that got it through senate.

all they've announced is they have adjusted the settings for which it was intended but only minimally set previously. this is the setting that Taylor used to enable better profits in the coal mines and energy plants, he lowered the reduction level so that the existing infrastructure didn't have the cost of reducing emissions.

this is going the keep on but it won't cause much harm to many companies who have been genuinely reducing their emissions already. most are on board with reducing emissions due to the global efforts to reduce the long term impact of climate change.
