The pollies want to stop boats because of the real risk of people drowning.
Forget the billions it costs as no pollie will ever say that.
My solution is to say to Indonesia (we give about $640 million a year in aid) for every boat load of people we deduct $50 million from the aid. We keep the people and say there are 100 on board then we take immediately another 100 from the camps.
Put a $1million bounty on people smugglers proven guilty in Court and jailed for life.
That may stop the boats and with no family reunions, and TP visas as well the message may get through.
