Prospector that could also be that they are closing unprofitable stores... I have a great IGA near me and a crappy one.
Within 10km of my house there are 2 IGA, 3 Woolworths, 2 coles, and 2 aldi. Of these (based on my observation) 1 Woolworths, and the small corner store type IGA are not performing. 1 Woolworths and 1 Coles are ok (anchor tenants for a shopping centre) but not great. Aldi is doing well in both stores.
I think that aldi is taking more customers from Coles and Woolworths than IGA. However it's impossible to live exclusively off aldi as they dont have the range so customers always shop in one of the big stores as well as aldi.
To be sure the supermarket sector is heating up and competition is on. I just think that Metcash has been discounted too far compared to its value and future earnings at the moment.
