Yep geobotany "sounds" good, but has just as many issues as calcrete sampling and is more expensive to analyse. Gold values can build up over time in the soil profile while veg sampling only gives you a snapshot of what's in the leaves at that time which varies with the seasons and plant health etc etc. With good control and shallow cover, calcrete sampling can be useful but more often than not is just applied regionally with no allowances for palaeochannels/deeper cover where it is ineffective.
