I would wonder if this halal 'tax' is even legal in Australia - given the separation of state and 'religion'. Of course it would take a non-leftist QC (assuming there is one - or more) to draw out a definitive judgement. But the fact this dogma and associated cost is foisted on all Australians - you would think someone with judicial gonads would take it to the highest court in the land.
Plan B is to take it entirely out of Muslim hands - and into a government agency to confirm and approve halal complying companies. There is still a cost involved to the average Australian (but in principle a lesssor cost) - it just eliminates the scammers and perhaps honest compliance registrars. But does standardise and establish baselines for compliance.
