Frankfurt / Wiesbaden, 07.21.2014 - The Hessian Ministry of Economy promotes the expansion of combined heat and power plants (CHP) fuel cell, which are used in businesses and homes to generate electricity and heat supply. With the new program, according to Mathias Samson, State Secretary in the Hesse Ministry of Economy and Energy, funded up to 60 plants with grants of 50 percent of the investment costs or a maximum of 17,550 euros.
"The continuous development of efficient systems for the simultaneous production of electricity and heat for the success of the energy transition of great significance," Samson explained in Frankfurt on Monday. "If the relevant conditions are right, the additional construction of various facilities is attractive, from supermarkets to nursing home, from small workshops to the swimming pool. We want our new support program create the conditions that the potential offered by these efficient facilities, are exhausted. "
The Hessian state government has set itself the goal of covering up to the year 2050, the energy supply for the areas of heat and electricity in Hesse with 100 percent renewable energy. The decentralized energy production using combined heat and power plants plays an important role. As an innovative and efficient energy converters, fuel cells are ideal for such micro power plants.Through the combined use of electricity and heat to an overall efficiency of over 80 percent can be achieved.
Today, around 500 such fuel cell heaters are Germany's already installed as a demonstration plants.Manufacturers such as Viessmann and Ceramic Fuel Cells are now offering first commercial systems on the market. "We thank the Hessian state government for the much needed support in market integration of fuel cell heating systems?" Said Manfred old man, General Manager at Viessmann."This technology can make an important contribution to increasing the share of decentralized power generation through combined heat and power, because the fuel cell heating systems of the market for single-and two-family houses is addressed both in new buildings and in the redeveloped."
"In large field trials, we have demonstrated the technical maturity of our BlueGen fuel cells. With the support of the state government, it is now financially attractive to our customers in Hesse, save up to 50% CO2, "says Andreas Ballhausen, Member of the Executive Ceramic Fuel Cells GmbH.
Also gas utilities as the Hesse Gas Union have an interest in the new technology and support the implementation as project partners. "Natural gas allows the energy revolution," explains Hugo Wiemer, CEO of Union Gas. "The natural gas industry is the largest energy infrastructure with their memory for Germany. Thus, this potential can be used, we need affordable and reliable natural gas application techniques. Therefore, gas-Union supports the market introduction of fuel cells and other micro-CHP systems. "
As a platform that aligns the interests of politics, business, science and society, the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Initiative Hessen also welcomes the support program. "We welcome the support of the State for the market preparation of fuel cell heating systems," adds Professor Dr. Birgit Scheppat, CEO of Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Initiative Hessen. "We connect with the funding the hope that it boosts the demand for fuel cell products and increases the attractiveness of entry market. However, further efforts at the federal level necessary to make fuel cell technology marketable. "
