it's about confidence and the American dream...not actual facts and figures. MOst people know nothing about those and more importantly don't care....and what the hell do Australian's care about the US car industry?
In the US it's a different story....The car industry is a significant part of American culture...One of the most famous buildings in NY is the Chrysler building....The Chrysler foundation is a symbol of American power...
At the time of it's construction it became the world's tallest building....it's a national icon no less important than the Eiffel Tower...
Entire cities have evolved around the car industry - Detroit for example and it's music etc etc...
The significance of this bailout is not just economical it's cultural
