    Andrew,

Get off the distraction/diversion/deflection bandwagon and clean up your own filthy back yard before criticising others.

Better still, get out and give someone else a shot, your olive grove needs you.

AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou has backed the Gillard Government's stance to outlaw live betting updates during sports broadcasts and has blamed the conduct of the nine network and bookmaker Tom Waterhouse for forcing the ban.

Demetriou said the AFL had joined a discusion of the major sporting codes after the Prime Minister's announcement on Monday and had determined to support the plan.

Nine's coverage of rugby league is flooded with appearances by Waterhouse promoting live betting odds and it is believed to have sparked Gillard's move to eradicate the practice.

Demetriou says the AFL believed the self regulating meaures previously in place had been working well and criticised "one network" for pushing the boundaries of what was acceptable and forcing the Government to intervene.

Demetriou didn't name names but clearly had Waterhouse and Nine in his sights.

"We're all paying the price of an outrageous advertising campaign by one individual whose got in people's faces and they are absolutely entitled to be outraged by that," he said.

"I think one network didn't cover themselves in glory either in the way they've promoted live gambling.
"We support the changes. We'll act responsibly and I think they go far enough."

The TV networks have agreed to implement the Government’s new restrictions after Prime Minister Julia Gillard threatened to legislate a complete ban.

The networks wanted the practice to be allowed during quarter-time and halftime breaks but Ms Gillard did not budge and has given broadcasters two weeks to present a code that complied with the Government's requirements.

Under the Gillard plan generic gambling ads are still allowed during quarter-time and halftime breaks.
