In the 15th century when Portugal was colonising and spreading the Holy Roman Church everywhere---the Portugese gov of the day---gave so much money to any Portugese sailor who wanted to take a native wife in Malacca----so what happened was they didn't just take one wife they took several--and thus they got more money off the government--LOL So anyway the place was colonised alright.
