I'm not a criminologist but know that people's recollections of crime events are always coloured by their own fears and biases.

I mean even you as having not been there clearly show a bias here by WANTING him to have said that. Your post is practically dripping with disappointment that he probably didn't and that the observers are giving suspect or distorted witness accounts.

The next thing he is reported to have said when he gets outside is:

"I'm German, F... You Foreigners"

That's something that might go along with the "F... Off We're Full" ideology that passes here as a membership card to some heavy duty back slapping between bigots.
