If you live in NSW and are part of a community or cultural group you can apply for grants through the Multicultural NSW Celebrating Diversity Grants Program. Funding of up to $10,000 is available out of a total pool of $800,000. Multicultural NSW “promotes community harmony while celebrating cultural diversity as an important part of NSW life” and is open to all cultural groups and communities.
That's 200 language groups. Let me assure you that in those countries that those people come from Australia Day is celebrated with enthusiasm. For instance in Botswana on the 26th January each year Waltzing Matilda is played all day. The **orone radio station belts it out ad nauseam with the result being that the DJ has received threats to his physical well-being. And it's the same in Tierra del Fuego. On the 26th January each year a pub crawl starts at 8am and goes all day and then into the night. The day usually ends with a pub fight. Overseas countries just love celebrating Australia Day and they pour heaps of dosh into it to guarantee its success.
Lunacy dressed in the carapace of diversity is the way forward.
