To be fair many people in low social economic demographics probably have no opportunity to grow their own vegetables given many likely live in apartment blocks with out a garden.
I do think as i’ve seen in a few places community gardens are a great idea for people in that position. Land allocated by council or government and then people in that position take a strip they maintain & share the produce.
