JACK, the unions have NO choice in what's happening; they are required to participate and have even had their offices been raided - with the media engaged in sensational reporting of those raids. Kevin Rudd, Julia Gillard and Bill Shorten have also been hauled before the TURC and answered thousands of questions.

The TURC was extended at the request of Justice Heydon; in terms of reference, in the allocated budget and in time.

Now Justice Heydon has further extended the weight period for his decision over allegations their are perceptions of bias; from an initial two days to eight and now apparently to 11. Instead of the TURC being about union governance and corruption, it's currently about the TURC itself!

The TURC appears to have morphed into a defacto show trial that is feeding the 24/7/52 media cycle at the expense of the loss of perceived separation between government and the judiciary. It's festering and infection now appears to be spreading!

This is the second postponement after Justice Heydon deferred the decision — originally planned for Tuesday, August 25 — on Monday.
