trend trading try day trading on something other than small caps than you wont have a problem, If you like a small cap buy & hold, i have never seen an algo do more than cause a range trade so if your day trading why bother.
It is a concern that you compare day trading to poker, I have a mate who only trades one stock (blue chip) up or down algo's never appear he doesnt view it as gambling he does lots of research & i could never be called gambling.
Also if you have a problem with managed super funds start a smsf, greatest thing i ever did. Good luck
