Just a thought, but perhaps the next follow up investigative piece in the SMH could shed some light on short sellers and in particular their role in manipulating stocks to make profits.
How does it work.
What do they do.
How do they acquire knowledge.
Is it legal / illegal in all it's forms.
What is the position and comment with ASIC/ASX and Corps law.
Are there examples of prosecutions or cases underway.
Is it possible ,0r how hard is it for short sellers to engineer misinformation and disseminate it.
I refer to my earlier post:
So RFG is the 6th most shorted stock on the ASX ( according to statistics released by the ASX and published shortman.com.au). Refer:/www.shortman.com.au/stock?q=RFG
The shorts started in April/May then SPIKED in July 2017, then went GANGBUSTERS leading up to the publication of the article in the Sydney Morning Herald.
I am guessing that there were a lot of shorts who enjoyed reading the story over the weekend. Hopefully none of them had advanced intel or were anonymous contributors. I certainly do not think that anyone at the SMH would have any knowledge of any of these possible activities.
The ASX and ASIC might like to use their intelligence units to have a peak at who was shorting, therein might shed some light on the current shenanigans.
I think someone needs to point out that Shareholders also become the innocent victims of these episodes as they play out.
There are lots of success and failure stories of many franchise businesses ( RFG and Others) , overarching on all of this is a plethora of State and Federal Government regulation and legislation.
Are we suggesting more Legislative controls or why not a Royal Commission, the reality business open and close in this world of rapid disruption, who knows whats next, perhaps Newspapers.
You know the Franchisee's and Shareholders alike have more prospects if RFG survives and thrives rather than become the victim of unscrupulous short traders.
Let's hope the market see's one of the underlying agenda's here and the SP starts it's track back to its proper market level and the real culprits are exposed.
