Looks like there's a lot of support for fair dealing with Hicks despite the coalition not signing the appeal to Nancy Pelosi. Lon Cheney's impending visit may prove to be a watershed.
"While Justice Minister Chris Ellison would not be a signatory, he's reiterated the need for Hicks to be brought trial.
"Australia's making it very clear to the United States that we expect charges to be laid soon and we think that Mr Hicks should be dealt with," he told ABC Radio.
Senator Allison [Dem] is hopeful Australians will make their concerns about Hicks known when US Vice President Dick Cheney visits Australia from February 22.
"It wouldn't surprise me if there was a lot of action, a lot of protests, a lot of ordinary Australians saying 'this threatens our own system of justice and we want something done about it'," she said."
