Bob, I listened to the interview replayed on the radio and my impression was that Hicks father had merely made it known to his son how the people in Australia would judge him, not himself, the father. A transcript doesn't translate the tone of voice and intended emphasis, and as such journos are able to put their own spin on things for the mug reader.
