I remember way back in the ’70 someone saying ‘America has neither permanent friends nor permanent enemies’ only permanent self interest’. When they talk about ‘this administration’ rather than America, you get the feeling their policy is for the here and now, tomorrow is another ‘administrations’ problem. Oz’s very British attitude of ‘I do the right thing for you and you’ll reciprocate’ in not in the American phsycy (sp?). Even the Brits can get ‘justice for their citizen’, can we? We don’t even have advantageous free trade agreements with America. When it’s convenient they slap a meat or wheat import restriction on us. AWB (not that I agree with what they did) has done nothing the Yanks don’t do (and do else where)…just we got there first, and they’re the only one yelling unfair…so where’s Oz’s share of the Iraq reconstruction dollars. Don’t expect America on our door step if we get invaded, unless it’s in their interest to do so.
