To suggest there are even the remotest of similarities in the Oz situation to the post WW2 economic, social or political environment in either Germany or Italy is almost beyond laughable.
At the end of the day, the great democracies of the West in the main remain very well protected and insulated from any process that anywhere near resembles those of europe
And if in sacrificng a few rights that the vast vast vast majority would never ever ever ever notice - if to do so makes the job of the evil terrorists that much harder - then its a step I'm more than happy to take.
