Yes we do get to choose from the people who are placed on the ballot form for a free election as they do in Russia and many other "non democratic" countries, but after that the public's input into the government operation is NIL

I also do not see how the highest court in the land can just ignore the Australian Constitution because of political pressure

We were promised a plebiscite in plain clear language.

The politicians knew that if they did that they would get a no vote so they have come up with this convoluted expensive system where 100% of the gay community will vote yes and about 20% of the rest will vote no. This is what happened in Ireland where in actual fact the yes vote was only supported by about 24% of the population

No one can call that a proper democracy
