I think the article fails to consider the specifics of law firm operations - I don't think, if SGH became insolvent, a competitor firm could make a white knight bid to take the business over unless it was structured before an ex-ad appointment. Clients would be moving their files away (either of their own decision, by competitor lawyers and former employees leaving the firm) very quickly and an IP would be powerless to stop it.

You raise an interesting point - sometimes negative media coverage and sentiment can have a self-fulfilling impact on a business. What chance some nervous clients, reading the press coverage and possible not making the most informed decision, might move their files elsewhere (as SGH can't restrict a client from moving their file to another solicitor - though doing so can lead to a more costly case (as new solicitor needs to get up to speed etc.))?

Whilst in no way directly comparable (but arguably analogous) its interesting what impact might have been felt by DSH in its last months with negative press coverage and a declining SP in terms of suppliers ceasing to supply goods on credit and customers concerned about warranty issues on private label goods? Did this snowball to contribute to DSH's failure?
