Hi P87,
I'm an old member of the public, vote liberal and consider myself a flaming dinosaur at times...
" surely there are more important issues to address in this country."
There sure are, mate, and I wonder why so much energy and time is being put into bringing in gay marriage at this time.
"Secondly, I don't understand the strength of the objection to the idea."
Australia has a large aged population, and most of them would oppose it on grounds similar to mine. I wouldnt call it "fanatical"....havent heard for calls to bring pitchforks to the rally or anything. The most common reaction among oldies of my vintage is "Yuk!".
As we die off and the next generation becomes the majority, they will be more receptive, and the current generation of youngsters will be for anything as long as they can walk around like zombies with Ipods, Iphones, earphones, plugged into their orifices, and with a vacant look in their eyes.
Ask them the question, and the response will be "Whatever.."
They wont care....us oldies still do..
cheers
