I don't know if this is any comfort. But I ran a Real Estate agency until 2010 or thereabouts. I had been in the industry for about 10 years and when I started most ad's were still done through the newspapers. I am not sure when realestate.com.au exactly started but each office paid a monthly fee which covered the whole state. From memory I think it was about $190 per month. I am still in contact with many in the industry and the fees have got higher and higher, reaching extraordinary levels.
To add insult to injury your fee now covers very limited areas. I know nothing about present discounts.
Yes there is the Real Estate body who advertise and Domain. But the No1 go to site is REA. I am new to shares and hold just a very few with REA.
I did consider Domain as they are much cheaper, but my knowledge led me away.
I have already in 5 weeks made a substantial gain, I am not up for buying more at the present price.
BUT my thoughts are that they will still do business, albeit on a limited scale.
Remember they also are the leading site for rentals. People still have to sell at times, especially downsizing and tenants may very well be looking for more affordable rentals.
Basically they may suffer in the short term, but they have I believe sizeable assets and they have had the agents by the balls for several years and I cannot see this changing anytime soon.
This is not any sort of recommendation just my personal thoughts. I feel they are a good hold until things improve. I hope this helps.
