Bring on the salt!
An Australian company progressing commercialisation of the CERENERGY® Solid State Battery in Germany has reported significant progress and advancement of the technology. Their salt batteries are a game-changing alternative to lithium-ion batteries. They are fire and explosion-proof; have a life span of more than 15 years and operate in extreme cold and desert climates. The battery technology uses common table salt and is free of lithium, cobalt, graphite and copper, thereby eliminating exposure to critical metal price rises and supply chain concerns. The Company is working in joint venture with German battery institute Fraunhofer IKTS, to commercialise a 100 MegaWatt-hour Cerenergy battery plant in Saxony, Germany.
