But it was probably said by a relative of Charles H. Duell,(Commissioner, US Patent Office), who in 1899 made the famous statement "Everything that can be invented has been invented".

Remember, the first first cars only appeared around 1900 - so you can only imagine the primitive mining tools they had at the time. No pneumatic drills or diamond edged core drills. No air conditioning or high-tech computer modeling - not even a cold beer....

.....Its no wonder they abandoned the mine when it became flooded.
