Jongerd, I feel that this company is absolutely typical of so many companies - they are in it just for themselves and the shareholders or owners are just some annoying inconvenience who may get thrown the odd thing here and there in order to keep dissent below a certain threshold. I don't mean that they don't ultimately want it to go through, they just see the owners as unimportant and to be ignored whenever possible, as much as possible.
