I think we are just as likely to see a move to more tyrinical regimes as to more more liberal ones.
In much of the middle east there no history, understanding of or yearning for modernity. Democracy is just one arm of modernity which cannot survive on its own.
Modernity in Europe came about through the reformation. This valued science, equality of people, religous freedom, freedom of commerce, freedom of ideas, freedom of expression and the rule of law.
Without these underpinnings we may only see a change of despots. This is what happens in Africa.
