I forgot the Minsk agreement? You forgot the annexation of Crimea. The Donbas rebellion was effectively a Russian invasion from 2014. Putin escalated it to the SMO, probably because it had become a stalemate. Mostly Ukraine had to agree not to join Nato, acquiensce to the Crimean annexation and probably give autonomy to the Donbas.
