Dont want to make a noise. Whatever the charts say, something very important has happened, just saw the reserves of the German Bundesbank, the central bank. It is holding 85% of its reserves in gold. Very few US dollars or any other paper money. The same is true of central banks all over the place now. It is looking very much like the days when everyone held their reserves mainly in $US are over. The American money supply has gone from $850 billion to 5 or 6 trillion now in less than 10 years. The economy has not grown anything remotely like that. The central bankers are bailing or have bailed. For obvious reasons of maintaining economic confidence they are not talking about it. Just doing it.
I have no joy in this. But no one wants to walk into a punch. Does this mean a massive depreciation of the $US in the making? I dont know. But I want to own hard assets with no debt. What will this do to the $A? I dont want to think about it.
I think that certain heavyweight bodies on Wall St are currently naked shorting gold to try to change the situation. I think they are wasting their time because there will never be enough gold for it to become the global currency per se, but there is enough for it to be the reserve of choice of the central banks. This is going to put a very solid floor under the price. The Fed has killed the goose that laid the golden egg. No joy in this. But dont see how they can turn the situation around.
But how do we survive? Own gold or gold miners who can ride it out? What will replace the dollar? Time will tell. Maybe the dollar will still be very important, but not as important as it was.
