Hitler was a member of the German Workers Party, a leftist activist party with a focus on socialism (that later became the nazis). They were to the German left what the greens are to the modern Labor party. They (along with the main leftist of the day) lost the election to the german political right. Now (and this is where the idea he was right wing comes from) despite this he was promoted to Chancellor by the political right wing. This was a move that was supposed to sooth over growing tensions that were rising since their prior losses. The modern equivalent would if Joe Biden promoted Trump to the roll of speaker of the house as a goodwill gesture and everyone started saying "look, Trumps a leftie". True historians will tell you that's not actually how that works. I understand the argument that politics have changed over the last 100 years as back then leftists had an in-group preference and now they have an out-group preference where the right wing used to be about big business and foreign trade and now it wants to focus on the home and dismantle big tech. But the fundamental differences remain the same and it's important not to forget what base philosophy leads where in times or radical political divide where there are few checks and balances and each system can get out of control. We live in dangerous times where the military is already being used to control the populus, being deployed in the streets of Melbourne and Sydney and on the borders. Do we really want to forget history and who most prefers this state of affairs? If you think "the pandemic" makes everything different this time then i'll remind you that the 1933 excuse was that Jews carry typhus. Thus was needed emergency powers to enforce lock-downs, socially distance us from them, record their movements and create camps to house them while they were "cured". Everyone wants to disown Hitler. Just as everyone want to claim Einstein (see the debate as to whether he's Christian or atheist). But there are objective truths in history/reality and one of them is that hitler was born from the ideals of the left and raised by a leftist party. Even if those aren't the exact same ideals and party of the left today.
