It is pretty evident that most people have little knowledge of horses.
These police horses are ex racehorses and well trained. They weigh close to 600 kg and can trample or crush a human if they so desire. If you have ever copped a hit from a horses head I can assure you their heads are pretty much solid bone and it bloody hurts. If you have ever led a green, spooky horse they will readily run over the top of you and you use your hand to push them away.
If you want to see horses putting their bodies on the line check out a campdrafting competition. Makes the job of pushing a few humans along look fairly tame.
We have had occasion to pull cattle and a few horses from dams and creeks. You put a chain around their heads and pull them out with a tractor. Their heads don’t come off.
We were able to revive the neighbours horse after pulling him out with a bottle of whisky down the gullet. He stood up within 5 mins.
