The big players are pumping hundreds of millions into Type one treatments and devices. Once LCT has confirmed results the US pharmas will all be circling for a piece of LCT, personally I believe that J&J will be the bidder once the results are out. Some snippits from today's papers show the interest and value this market offers: "Medtronic's diabetes revenue jumped 18 percent in fiscal 2008, to just over $1.09 billion, helping to offset slowing sales in the company's core heart rhythm device business. The diabetes business is focused on a number of technology advances, including an insulin pump that can automatically shut off insulin delivery if it detects blood sugar has fallen too low, a particular danger when a patient is sleeping. A pump with that safety feature is expected to gain approval for sale in Europe later this calendar year, O'Connell said. Both Insulet and J&J are working with DexCom to produce integrated systems that are expected to hit the market next year."
