Yeah fair point, HDG is much closer to rail being close to the existing line, but in truth all coalers in Botswana are awaiting the Kalahari Rail news in Jan 2012, the way I see it everyone is in a similar boat and the real export dollars will be made with the establishment of that line.
As stated in various NMR articles, they will be focusing on things such as above ground gasification etc and add on products as well as the export of better quality deeper seams.
Make money locally through power generation and development of a variety of add ons while Kalahari is being built and hit the export market once rail is established.
I also remember reading in either the AFR or CIC presentation that the existing rail is pretty heavy on traffic at the moment and that (whoever it was) needed to check whether it was even possible to use the existing rail for bulk transport of additional coal ??
