You cannot talk about the Australian RE market as one market. There are numerous markets within the market. Inner city dwelling with land are very different to mining town units, as one example. Yes some will fail (and some already have), some will stagnate and others will continue to grow. It is not all one market.

Sub-markets don't fluctuate to the same degree, but here is the thing - money is money, credit is credit, interest rates are interest rates. The cost, availability and level of these are a determinant of house prices and in most cases it doesn't usually discriminate (that is unless a certain location is being targeted by financiers).
