I think Gastar is only concerned with drilling for Coal Based Methane (CBM). The open cut mines in the Gippsland Basin are all owned by power generators. Namely: Edison Mission, Yallourn, Hazelwood and Loy Yang. I believe they are all private companies owned by various national and international companies. Hazelwood has tested the Coldroy pellets in August 2005.
The Hazelwood brown coal mine and power station is owned and operated by International Power Hazelwood (IPRH). IPRH is owned by a consortium that comprises international energy utility, International Power plc, Commonwealth Financial Services (Australia) and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. International Power plc owns 91.8% of IPRH. International Power plc is listed on both the London and New York stock exchanges. The Commonwealth Bank Group owns the remaining 8.2% share.
