A little bit of a correction there Kiwi, the rare earths are mined at Mt Weld near Laverton about 3.5 hours drive from Kal or 10 hours from Perth and shipped to Malaysia for processing.
The Malaysian gov have always given them a hard time regarding environmental concerns on the processing so Lynas are building a processing facility in Kalgoorlie and talk of one in the US with the China trade tensions and control of world supply concerns to the Trump administration .
They might mothball the Malaysian plant until they get a better deal when the Kal plant is built.
