It's interesting to note that Francois Hollande wants to reduce France's nuclear energy share of total electricity output to 50% from the current 75% by 2025 . . . . . yet he wants France to retain it's nuclear arsenal, as a deterrent.
Close attention should be paid to the wording of his promises. ----------------------------------------------------------- http://www.world-nuclear.org/info/inf40.html
"In mid 2010 a regular energy review of France by the International Energy Agency urged the country increasingly to take a strategic role as provider of low-cost, low-carbon base-load power for the whole of Europe rather than to concentrate on the energy independence which had driven policy since 1973." -----------------------------------------------------------
In 2011 France exported net 56 Billion KWh, which is 10.3% of the total electricity production ( all sources ) of 542 Billion KWh for that year.
Assuming only Germany & Switzerland proceed with their stated shutdown of all their nuclear power generation.
Using WNA ( World Nuclear Association) data from 2010 ( pre Fukushima ) so we have a good representation of the amount of nuclear power being produced by these two countries.
As you can see France is much closer to the 50% share of total electricity output.
As you can see with 158 Billion KWh being exported to Germany and Switzerland only, total generation hasn't changed but " France's nuclear energy share of total electricity" . . . . .
" has fallen from 75% to 61% ".
Why, because that portion being exported is not counted as being part of . . . .
" Frances nuclear energy share "
In 2011 France exported 56 Billion KWh or 10.3% of total electricity production ( all sources ). . . to Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Spain, UK.
----------------------------------------------------------- 2012 World Nuclear Association
" France is the world's largest net exporter of electricity due to its very low cost of generation, and gains over EUR 3 billion per year from this."
