You will find the reason he is charged is because he used more force than reasonably necessary to stop the intruder. You can protect your property. You can defend your self. Just don't use unnecessary force. Eg if you come across an intruder in your home and front him, if he puts up his hands and surrenders, you bash him,your gone. If he runs out and you chase him and bash him your gone. If you front him and he attacks you, do what you have to do. If you are not sure what he is going to do eg Mexican stand off, order him out, if he doesn't leave do what you have to do to get him out. Law can be an ass sometimes.
