Okay, stating the obvious here. However it's weird that it's coming from the banks now.

"Bendigo and Adelaide Bank chairman Robert Johanson has called on the government to stop handing out grants to homebuyers, warning the practice only inflates house prices and distort the market, according to The Herald Sun.

Mr Johanson told the newspaper that the handouts were "bad policy", and said they were simply distracting government and the market.

"The government were giving people money to get into new houses which transferred the value to the sellers. It just put costs up," he told the Herald Sun..

"Frankly it was just bad policy. The investment in housing was really driven by the prosperity rather than government policy.""
