Yes the wealth did exist (maybe not to the extent you believed it was) and it is irrelevant whether you sell or not as that is merely the transfer of wealth from one vehicle to another. In reality with the exeception of tangible goods in your own personal possession all wealth is kinda illusionary anyway.
