good post holden
the issues are complex.
when watso was 20 years old ((and after having worked in the pilbara (or country) for 3 years)) - watso simply wanted a bit of security - and bought a dump of a property for $10,000.
in retrospect that was a good idea - because watso opted for a "rubbish heap house" in preference to a car - which seemed to be the attraction for similar aged people at the time.
ok - circumstances change - so maybe spendthrift males meet spendthrift females - and because of their jobs etc etc - it all works out, and they can have a good life - but maybe a "spendthrift male" does not meet a good woman - and the chance of home ownership is lost.
in west australia, 25 years ago, property was incredibly cheap - so the option was between a car, or a house. one thing for sure, is that a car have "pulled in the chicks" - but that was really a waste of money - unless the correct chick was pulled in.
