If you are interested in the welfare of children growing up in same sex households, there is an excellent website thembeforeus.com set up by a lady named Katy Faust, who herself grew up in a lesbian household.
If you look up critiqueAMA.com you will find further useful commentary on the research.

Basically the claim that children growing up in same sex households "are no worse off" is misleading. The research is flawed as there is no random sampling of children in same sex households (due to their very small numbers) in most of these studies. Instead the "parents" opt into the studies and fill in the surveys of how their kids are doing. How many of these parents having opted into the study are then going to say that their child has issues?

Also, the studies have not been run for long enough (eg. How will these children go as parents and grandparents themselves?) It is too early to draw conclusions on this big social experiment.

I think removing children from their biological parents as public policy, is both immoral and foolish.
The fact that children already exist in these family structures is sad (as it's often the result of prior family break ups), but not a reason to endorse them. Do we as a society, want to add more children to these family types if they are going to be worse off?

Who will stand up for these kids' and their rights?

Related to this topic is that of commercial surrogacy and the push for its legalisation in Aust. If SSM is passed, the next "equality" demand will be for easier access to children for gay men, most likely through commercial (possibly international) surrogacy arrangements.

Children should never be commoditised to satisfy the desires of adults.

The welfare of children is the strongest reason I have to support voting NO.
