Well, it has been a useless year. One has to wonder if OEC will ever go anywhere. However, the J/V Synerject is looking very good and business is building. The patents below, just some of them, show that Honda are taking OCP seriously and OCP equipped outboards are in use in Japan.

    Happy New Year to all.

    Abstract of EP1589201

A fuel injection valve 60 of a fuel direct injection internal
combustion engine E injects an air-fuel mixture into a cavity 51 of
a piston 5 so that an outer periphery 63a of an injection flow 63 is
in the cavity 51 during the compression stroke. By cooperation of a
squish area 54 formed on a peripheral portion 53 of the piston 5 and
a squish area 34 formed on a ceiling surface 30 of a cylinder head 3
to define a combustion chamber 8, an oblique squish 20 is generated
which is directed obliquely upward above the peripheral portion 53
toward an injection center axis L4 and which flows along an opposed
portion 30a of the ceiling surface 30, which is located upward of
and opposes the opening of the cavity 51. Due to the above
structural feature, improvement in specific fuel consumption and
exhaust emission is achieved by preventing or suppressing diffusion
and separation of the air-fuel mixture due to a squish effect.

    Abstract of JP2005105827

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel injection equipment of an
internal combustion engine, in which the combustion stability can be
improved as compared with the conventional one and the fuel
    consumption can be improved further.

    SOLUTION: The fuel injection
equipment is provided with sensors 182, 184 to detect the operating
state of the engine E, a crank angle sensor 186 to detect the
rotation angle of a crankshaft 16, and a controller 180 to control
the injection of an air-fuel mixture with an air-fuel injection
injector 100. The controller 180 decides an injection starting crank
angle which is the rotation angle of the crankshaft 16 corresponding
to the injection starting timing of the air-fuel mixture with the
air-fuel injection injector 100 depending on the operating state
(for example, a throttle opening and engine rotational speed) of the
engine E detected with the sensors 182, 184, and starts the
injection of the air-fuel miture with the air-fuel mixture injection
injector 100, when the crank angle detected with the crank angle
sensor 186 reachs the injection starting angle.

    Abstract of JP2005105826

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an engine from causing the stop
even when a throttle opening sharply increases in the state where
the rotational speed of a crankshaft is low at the time of starting
and at the time of idling of an internal combustion engine.

SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine is provided with an air-
fuel mixture injection injector 100 to inject a pressurized air-fuel
mixture into a combustion chamber 11 by opening and closing an air
injection valve 116, an operating state detection means (a throttle
opening sensor 182 and a rotational speed sensor 184) to detect the
operating state of the engine E, and a controller 180 to conduct the
injection of air-fuel mixture with the air-fuel mixture injection
injector 100. The controller 180 controls the opening of the valve
(the air injection valve 116) in the air-fuel injection injector 100
during the predetermined time after it ends the fuel injection into
the combustion chamber 11 with the air-fuel injection injector 100
corresponding to the operating state of the engine E detected with
    the operating state detection means.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten and simplify the structure of an
air passage among an air pump, an air-fuel mixture injection valve,
and an air compression regulator by devising a mounting position of
the regulator in an air-fuel mixture supply device for a direct
injection type internal combustion engine with the injection valve
for supplying the mixture of compressed air and fuel to a combustion
    chamber.

SOLUTION: The regulator for stabilizing pressure
difference between the compressed air pressure and atmospheric
pressure is mounted to a cylinder head part in the air inlet port

The engine, in which the end of a spark plug (26) projects into a
combustion chamber (19) from a cylinder head with more than one
inlet port (20, 21), has the plug fixed to the cylinder head in a
position offset from the centre of the combustion chamber and
juxtaposed to the inlet ports. The cylinder head also has a guide
wall (142) for air entering the combustion chamber through one of
the ports (21). In addition, the cylinder's piston has a cavity in
its face exposed to the combustion chamber and facing an injection
valve nozzle (108a) that delivers fuel in fine particles.
